Cockatiel Bird Cages

What Kind of Features Will Make Your Bird Happy

Anybody who has a pet will understand that sometimes the little things they do for their animal friends can make them happier than anything else. Things like tossing a ball for your dog to catch will bring him a lot of joy, as will petting a cat that is sitting on your lap. For those people who enjoy the company of birds, there are also many things that you can do to please your feathered friends as well. One of the more popular birds that people will get as a pet is the cockatiel, a small companion parrot. Some of the simplest things you can do to make your bird happy have to do with the various features on cockatiel bird cages.

Cockatiel Bird Cages

One of the first things you can do when picking out a cage, is to look at how much room is available inside it. Cockatiel bird cages can come in many different shapes and sizes, so picking out the right one for your bird can be tricky. It has been said that most cockatiels, in general, would prefer a cage that is wider than it is tall. So how wide does a cage need to be in order to provide enough room for your bird? The average wingspan on a cockatiel is usually around 14 inches, so as a general rule of thumb look for one that is about twice as wide as their wingspan.

The next thing you should look at that will please your bird is safety. When buying cockatiel bird cages, you want to make sure that cage bars are spaced out enough for your particular type of bird. If you have a cockatiel, you don’t want cage bars that are spaced out far enough for a much larger bird, as your bird could get their head, or even their body, stuck between the bars. If you buy a cage that is way too small, then your bird can have trouble getting out of cage and could injury themselves in trying to do so. You also want a cage that has parrot proof latches, as these cannot easily be unhooked by a cockatiel or parrot.

Finally, you should look for cockatiel bird cages that have features that will make your life easier. Look for features like slide out trays that will make cleaning the cage a breeze and wheels which make for easier mobility. These features aren’t so much for the bird as they are for you, but if you are in a happy mood, your bird will be happier as well.
