Cockatiel Toys
Birds love to play! One of the best aspects of having a cockatiel is enjoying watching them play! Birds have such amazing personalities and can be real characters but like any creature with a higher intelligence they need some entertainment. Cockatiel toys are a must have for a true pet lover, whether you are always around to entertain your bird or if you are out of the house a lot your bird will love some toys to play with to break up the monotony of the day. Here are a few simple and cost effective ways you can add some excitement to your bird’s life and ensure you have a happy cockatiel!
A new perch
Your bird will spend a fair bit of time chilling on his or her perch so you may as well make it comfortable! If you don’t want to buy a perch you can actually use fallen branches, cockatiels feet are actually made to grip onto branches and sticks and they will also be able to nibble and chew on any excess bark!
Be careful with the kind of perch you use, a soft wood is usually best as some plastic perches can cause foot issues with birds. Just keep an eye on your bird’s feet and you will be fine!

A new hang toy
In the wild your cockatiel would be climbing trees and all sorts of mischief. You can recreate this with a combination of a large perch and some sort of hanging cockatiel toy! If your hang toy contains rope make sure it is 100% cotton and natural to avoid any health concerns (your cockatiel is likely to eat some of the rope during the course of it’s destruction.). Often rope toys will be paired with soft wooden blocks for your bird to nibble on and play with.

Cockatiel Mirrors
The use of mirrors in cages is cause for a little division amongst pet enthusiasts! Most birds will love their reflection and will spend hours singing and flirting with themselves but some owners believe it’s not a good thing for birds to get too attached to their reflection. I personally haven’t had any problems using mirrors but everyone has their own ideas!
Something to shred
Cockatiels can be a little destructive so it is best to give them something that they can eat and shred up so they don’t start eating your wallpaper! Cotton ropes make for great chew toys as they pull apart easily and won’t harm your bird. Some cuttlebone can be a nutritious source of entertainment too! If you are looking to spend minimal amounts of dollars you can also try letting your bird shred up paper, cotton wool or even tissues!
